There's no better time than quarantine time to catch up on the movies. So where to start?
Well, every year on Reddit, movie fans rate what they think are absolutely must-see movies.
In 2019 there were so many recent movies (49 out of 250 on the list) thatReddit released a second listwhich excluded films from the last five years (to avoid recent bias).
The following entries for your viewing pleasure are the top 10 from the edited list.
If you're not that knowledgeable about movie history, these critical hits are a good place to start. If so, check it out and see if you agree.
And the top 10 on Reddit are:
1.The dark knight(Christopher Nolan: 2008)
Batman is determined to finally clean up the streets of Gotham. The problem is a psychotic criminal who is wreaking havoc throughout the city: the Joker. In case you didn't know, Heath Ledger won theacademic awardfor Best Actor in this role after his death from an overdose of prescription drugs.
Considering Joaquin Phoenix's recent win for the same role, it might be interesting to watch (or rewatch) this movie to compare how the two actors approached this obviously dark but meaty role.

The second movie on this list from director Christopher Nolan will definitely make you think. In this sci-fi thriller, a thief steals information by infiltrating the minds of his victims.
But now he's tasked with an even bigger challenge. In order to erase all his criminal history, he needs to plant an idea in his target's subconscious.
Based on the idea of lucid dreaming (a real practice in which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming and has some control), this critically acclaimed film will leave your head spinning.

4.pulp fiction(Quentin Tarantino: 1994)
Widely considered Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece, pulp fictionit was noted for its combination of comedy and graphic violence. (I vividly remember covering my eyes as I cracked up the first time I saw it.)
Not only did it receive a lot of critical acclaim, but it also influenced many movies that came after it. Most impressive of all, he did something that seemed almost impossible: he resurrected the career of John Travolta.
It also has an absolutely iconic dance scene with Uma Thurman. That alone is worth it.

Although reviews were mixed at the time, the movie was extremely popular and is now considered the best in the entire series. I think hindsight for futuristic sci-fi movies is 20/20.

8.The Godfather(Francis Ford Coppola: 1972)
It's hard to imagine there's a movie buff out there who hasn't seen what could easily be considered the godfather of all mobster movies (let alone one of the greatest movies of all time). But if you exist, watch this movie right away, even if you don't like gangster movies.

10La red social(David Fincher: 2010)
This biopic stars Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg (who, by the way, was not involved with the project). We follow the programming genius as what starts out as a small website created in his bedroom grows into a global phenomenon.
There are lawsuits and controversies on the road to success. But as the movie poster says: you don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.
Praised for its acting, directing, editing, screenplay, and soundtrack, the film won several awards. And no matter what your opinion of Zuckerberg is, this movie is just plain funny.
