Paladin is often considered one of themThe strongest classes in the fifth edition. It is a melee class with a full repertoire of combat and support spells. They can fight melee enemies as brawlers, drown bosses with their Divine Strike, and keep the party healthy and alive.
With all this versatility, the paladin has many magical items to complement his abilities. At the same time, his kit has some clear holes and weaknesses that a specialized team can compensate for. In addition to everything, paladins can take advantage of some of the best magic items in D&D 5e.
Updated March 24 by Isaac Williams:Paladins are one of the best and most popular classes in D&D 5e. Given their versatility, it's hard to tell which magic items are the best. This list has been updated with even more of the best paladin magic items in D&D 5e to help players create the best holy warrior possible.
15 elven cloak
Uncommon, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 158
Stealth is one of the glaring holes in a paladin's toolbox. The archetypal paladin focuses on Strength and neglects Dexterity. They also tend to wear the heaviest armor available to help them fight on the front lines. As a result, many paladins have a low stealth bonus and debuff.
Most D&D 5e campaigns involve at least some infiltration. The character should have some chance to sneak into the area without betraying their team. The Elf Cloak gives you an advantage on Stealth checks. At worst, this mitigates paladins' biggest problem with Stealth. At his best, he can become a surprisingly cunning paladin.
14 blast horn
Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 174
Blast Horn cuts out a dramatic image. However, it has many other uses. Paladins are one of the best classes in D&D 5e for one-on-one combat with enemies. However, they lack many ways to deal damage to multiple enemies at once. His area of effect spells are high-level, expensive, and less effective than those available to other classes.
Blast Horn fills this gap in the paladin's abilities. Deals 5d6 damage in a large cone and can stun targets. This is a better AoE attack than most early game paladins. Blast Horn has a chance to explode when used. However, the paladin is better equipped to absorb this damage than weaker party members.
13 fireball wand
Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide p. 210
Paladins are combat forces. However, they have two obvious gaps in their offensive repertoire. They don't have many ranged attacks and they lack AoE abilities. A fireball wand can solve both problems. The holder can use the charge to cast the Fireball spell.
Fireball is one of the best offensive spells in D&D 5e at low levels. Its effectiveness decreases later in the game, especially on a static wand save. However, even a little damage is better than none if the paladin can't get close to melee. A fireball wand covers paladin weaknesses with minimal investment.
12 robe star
Very Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 194
Robe of Stars complements the paladin's abilities and corrects one of his weaknesses. His most consistent trait is that he grants +1 to all saving throws. Paladins already have excellent saves thanks to their Aura of Protection ability. The +1 extra makes them even more difficult if they fail a saving throw.
Additionally, the Star Cloak allows the user to disappear into the astral dimension. This is less useful. However, it can still enable escape, help evade detection, and has many other uses. It also allows the holder to cast Magic Missiles at high level 1d6 times per day. Paladins don't have many ranged options. The star cloak makes them a threat beyond hand-to-hand combat, along with other traits.
11 health amulet
Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide p. 150
Paladins rarely sit at the back of the party. They often fight face-to-face with melee enemies. This causes them to take a lot of hits. However, paladins cannot focus on their Constitution as well as a barbarian or warrior. They must juggle to increase their Strength and Charisma. As a result, your life points may suffer.
This prevents the health charm. Sets the paladin's hitpoints to 19 regardless of investment. This gives you a few extra hit points per level. It also aids the paladin on Focus checks and other Constitution saves. With the charm of health and an aura of protection, they are unlikely to disappoint many.
10 This is the Chain of Ephraim
Legendary, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 167
Paladins are one of the best D&D 5e characters in frontline combat. They have heavy armor proficiency, a d10 hit die, and the ability to heal themselves. However,. Magic armor is essential for dodging attacks in the late game. Chain of Efreeti grants a +3 bonus to Armor Class in addition to many other effects.
In addition to its high AC, Chain of Efreeti makes the user immune to fire damage. They can also speak the primal language and walk on lava like on solid ground. Some of these effects are situational, but they're still invaluable when they come into play. The Efreeti chain is a better match for the rare and expensive +1 plate mail.
9 winged boots
Uncommon, Dungeon Master's Guide p. 214
Flight is invaluable in D&D 5e combat. It opens up another dimension of tactical thinking. Flying characters can overcome front-line enemies, traps, obstacles, and more to reach their goal. This is especially true for melee characters, such as paladins fighting flying enemies. However, paladins don't have an easy way to get flying.
Winged Boots gives the hero four hours of flight during an adventurous day. This is more than enough to keep paladins flying in every fight. However, he is also invaluable outside of combat. Paladins can use this flight to traverse dungeons and help allies in distress.
8 prayer bead necklace
Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 182
The Prayer Bead Necklace can only be worn by Paladins, Priests and Druids. It has 1d4+2 beads on it. Each bead allows the user to cast a powerful divine spell. The options include the always useful options like Blessing, Level 2 Wound Heal, and Greater Regeneration. They also include more esoteric options like Planar Ally or Wind Walk.
The prayer bead necklace makes for a decent collection of spells. Each pearl can only be used once per day. However, it is still a significant buff to the paladin's spellcasting. A few spells are options that a paladin won't get until he's very high leveled. Being able to quit early is a huge help.
7 Devotee's censer
Strange, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, p. 126
The pious censer is a flail that can only be used by clerics or paladins. It counts as a sacred symbol, meaning it can be used to cast divine spells that its owner has prepared. Each hit with it deals an additional 1d8 radiant damage to enemies. This stacks with the paladin's Divine Smite and Enhanced Divine Smite traits, making it a powerful damaging tool.
Additionally, Devoted Incense can heal. As a bonus action, unleash an incense cloud that spreads 10 feet and lasts for one minute. Each turn, the paladin can heal himself and his allies for 1d4 life points if they are in a cloud. This is invaluable both in and out of combat. Few magic items reflect the dual role of a paladin: damage and support.
6 Admirer's amulet
Varies, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, p. 119
Paladins aren't just melee powerhouses. They are just as good wizards as a ranger or craftsman. Paladins are medium wizards with a few unique spells of their own. They also have Channel Divinity to enhance their magical powers. The Amulet of the Devoted completes this side of the paladin's identity, increasing his spell attack bonus and saving throw DC.
Paladins do not benefit from spell attack bonuses as often as other classes. However, his unique shock spells and Channel Divinity effects use his saving throw DC. A paladin who prefers to buff allies or use Divine Strike on enemies may not get much benefit from Charm of Devotion. More versatile paladins or those who enjoy a variety of shock spells will find this invaluable.
5 The Book of Leadership and Influence
Very Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide p. 208
The Book of Leadership and Influence is much more than just a book. If a character reads it for 48 hours over six days, they gain a permanent bonus to their Charisma. His skill value is increased by 2, as is the Rare skill value upgrade. The limit increases by the same amount.
Charisma is invaluable for a paladin. Affects spellcasting, abilities, and other abilities. Specifically, 2 extra Charisma increases your own and nearby allies' saving throws by one. This little tweak can save the party in D&D 5e's campaign many times over.
4 lucrative practice manual
Very Rare, Dungeon Master's Guide p. 180
Paladins rely on two skill values over others. His Charisma helps with spellcasting and support abilities. However, their Strength allows them to finish fights before allies are hurt. After reading the Handbook of Profitable Practices, increases the paladin's Strength and Skill limit by 2.
This corresponds to four levels over several days. Also revives a paladin permanently. They can become stronger than any common humanoid with enough investment. A paladin with a lucrative drill manual can increase his Strength above 20 and become one of the most dangerous fighters in D&D 5e.
3 Wand of Ruling Power
Legendary, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 196
The Lordly Might wand is one of the most versatile magic weapons in D&D 5e. In its basic form, it is a +3 mace. It's already a top tier weapon. However, it has many more features. Lordly Might's wand can assume six alternate forms or functions at the touch of a button. These options range from Flame Tongue Sword to +3 Spear to Compass.
In any form, the Wand of Ruling Force has three additional functions. It can paralyze the target, drain the life of the enemy, or scare all creatures within 9 meters. They all interact with the paladin's toolkit. Lordly Might's wand is one of the best paladin items in D&D 5e, fitting almost any build.
2 giant belt of strength
Varies, Dungeon Master's Guide, p. 155
Paladins do not have to use the Force for their attacks. However, his skill with weapons and armor encourages him. The Giant Belt of Strength is the ultimate magic item for the D&D 5e paladins who craft it. Raises a character's strength to a set level based on rarity. At its weakest, it's still more than most characters can handle. In Legendary, it's a groundbreaking 29.
A paladin with a Giant Strength Belt strikes with more power and precision than he could achieve by ordinary means. These high bonuses stack with any magical weapon or buff. It also does not require any investment from the paladin. They can spend skill point bonuses on other stats like Constitution or Charisma.
1 holy avenger
Legendary, Dungeon Master's Guide pg. 174
Holy Avenger is a magical weapon only properly. Gives a +3 bonus on attack and damage checks, and deals an additional 2d10 radiant damage to demons and undead. The sword also radiates a 10-meter aura that grants the wielder and friendly creatures within range an advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. This aura increases at higher levels.
Holy Avenger makes the paladin better at everything he wants to do. It is deadly in combat, especially against the paladin's worst enemies. Also increases the paladin's support stats. Thanks to the buff and bonus Aura of Protection, allies within 30 feet will pass almost any save.
